This Women’s History Month, may we recognize the long, storied history of great women helping to realize our Nation’s founding promise and highest aspirations. May we all continue working to build a world worthy of the dreams and goals of all women and girls. (Excerpt from President Biden’s proclamation of March as Women’s History Month.)
Here are some things I plan to check out during the month:
- Explore the vast Women’s History Month offerings of various US organizations commemorating and encouraging the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history.
- Check out the offerings on PBS to learn more about women who made history and those continuing to do so.
- Honoring my Serbian cultural heritage, check out Femigration; a website dedicated to sharing the Stories and Cultural Impact of Serbian Women’s Immigration and Resettlement Experiences. Especially interesting to me is the article on the origins of the Circle of Serbian Sisters. My childhood memories of the Circle as the ladies of the church who ran the kitchens and organized bake sale fundraisers is forever changed.
- Continue my advocacy as a proud member of the League of Women Voters of Porter County. Check out the Forgotten Foremothers page on League of Women Voters of Indiana website.
- Follow the Westchester Library Facebook page. In honor or Women’s History Month, the Westchester Township History Museum will post a daily story about historic area women whose passions, obstacles, and histories have impacted the community.
