PoCo Muse

Museums bring communities together! And we have a gem of a museum in Valparaiso. I attended today’s special curated free tour with Porter County Museum Visitor Experience Manager Quinn Albert. The tour included additional local stories, one being the story of a Civil war soldier from Valparaiso. The museum displays his ring, carved from the wood of an apple tree, and is pictured in this post. I was also very interested in viewing the V&N exhibit of Porter County’s Electric Interurban Rail Line. I hope you can check out the exhibit and the rest of the museum, which is also currently featuring artwork from the Philip Brockington collection. I encourage folks to visit the museum, which is open Tues-Sun from 11 AM to 5 PM. Admission is FREE and now is a great time to learn about some of the history of our community.

This obituary honored a young woman who taught in the county school systems and died in her 20’s. It was written by her principal. When Quinn was sharing this article, she mentioned it always made her a bit emotional. Truly a life well lived.
