New Beginnings

Today I was sworn in as the Valparaiso City Councilmember representing the 3rd district. I am honored to serve on the council with my peers, who are committed to serve the citizens of Valparaiso for the purpose of making our city a great place to live and work.

Here are the remarks that I made after I was sworn in:

Good morning and Happy New Year.

Thank you, Trustee Harper, for swearing me in to service, thank you Mayor Costas for hosting and a thank you to my family members, friends and all others gathered here, as well as those virtually attending the ceremony. A special thank you to my fellow members of the League of Women Voters, whose mission of empowering voters and defending democracy provided the core elements contributing to the development of the public servant and leader I have become.

I am filled with gratitude for the generosity bestowed upon me by all those who supported my candidacy. This truly has been a humbling experience for which I will forever be grateful.

As your representative in city council:

I will champion managed growth and development to support the EXISTING community’s needs.

I will fight for increased funding for infrastructure repair and improvements to those areas of the city that have long been neglected.

I will be accountable to residents by sharing information in an open, honest, consistent, and dependable way.

I will listen and lead by supporting issues shaped by us all. Every voice will be heard, not just the wealthy, well-connected or loud ones.

And lastly, I am so excited to be a part of this team and I promise to work hard every day to serve you.

Thank you.
